St Mary’s Cathedral 10th Anniversary of the Children’s Liturgy Group

In 1997, three mothers decided the Cathedral should have a Children’s Liturgy Group and with the support of the late Fr Gerard Smyth, our group started in the church hall. A few years later, as the number of children grew, the group split into two; the ‘Angels’ for the younger children and the ‘Saints’ for the older ones. Throughout the years, the children have been involved in many activities in and out of the Cathedral including the children’s Christmas Eve Mass and Fun in the Park. The success of the group is based on the strength of faith of the parents involved and the desire for their children to learn more of God’s love. Read More

Almost 700 from across the Diocese including Bishop Terry, Mgr Dasey, VG, and 20 priests joined the FCJ communities from Middlesbrough and Hexham and Newcastle Dioceses at a Thanksgiving Mass in the Cathedral on 5th April to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of Venerable Marie Madeleine d’Houet who founded the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) Order in 1820 in Paris. This year Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, will be on 6th February. All are invited to join Bishop Terence Drainey for Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral at 7pm.

On the following Wednesday and every Wednesday in Lent there will be a Station Mass at 7pm at the Sacred Heart Church in Middlesbrough.

Each Friday in Lent there will also be a Station Mass at 12.10pm at the John Paul Centre in Middlesbrough.
