On Sunday 12th October 2008, 38 nervous but excited children joined the choristers of St Martin’s Ampleforth Prep School to experience being a Chorister for a Day. The visiting children had travelled from York, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Harrogate to the beautiful setting of Gilling Castle. This true story is about a woman, Callipateira, who disguises herself as a male trainer in order to be a part of the Olympics, but is not punished because her father, her brothers and her son had all been victorious at Olympia. Thursday 26th June was the first performance of three of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde held at St Martin’s Ampleforth Prep School. The production was undertaken as part of the continuing partnership between Ampleforth College and North Yorkshire Music Service and involved over 300 children from local primary schools. Noye’s Fludde provided a wonderful opportunity for a large number of children to be involved, either as actors/singers or as members of the orchestra. The production in part had been funded by a major grant from the National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ scheme and in part from ticket sales. Read More

The children of St. Martin’s Ampleforth School have raised £200 for the Loreto Convent School in Kolkota India.

This is a school for young girls catering for all children, including orphans and those from the slums. One of our pupils, Marguerite Henriot, age 11 from Gilling East, will be spending her Christmas working with the children in the school. Read More
