About the Christian Police Association

For 125 years the Christian Police Association has maintained a witness in the Police Services of the United Kingdom and beyond. We look forward to a future filled with hope and a desire to encourage and support those who serve the community in this vital way.

The Christian Police Association was founded in 1883 by Catherine Gurney, the young daughter of a respected Christian family (whose business was to provide short-hand writers for the Houses of Parliament). She had a vision from God that was to change the lives of many Police Officers. The vision was that throughout the UK, Police Officers of all Christian denominations would come to know the love of Jesus in their lives. From such humble beginnings the Christian Police Association was formed and now has representatives in every force within the UK, and extends to many other countries around the world. There has been a local branch within Cleveland for a number of years, with a good representation of all Christian faiths. This year marks the 125th anniversary of Catherine Gurney’s outreach to the Police Forces and the founding of the Association.

The Cleveland Branch of the Christian Police Association, sponsored by the Cleveland Police, is holding a similar event for the North of England Region at the Stockton Baptist Tabernacle, 7.30 pm, Saturday 15th November 2008. No tickets are required and refreshments will be provided. The guest speaker will be Mr Don Axcell, the CPA Executive Director, guest soloist will be Mrs Stacey Dobson (Cleveland Police). The Cleveland Police Band will be providing accompaniment to hymns etc.
