News
During the last few weeks there have been numerous activities in our parish, both spiritual and social.
Madonna House
In June, a group of people of all ages made our annual visit to Madonna House at Robin Hood's Bay, organised by Jean Campbell. After arriving at noon, we had our packed lunches on the lawn and were provided with liquid refreshment by our hosts, Charlie, Emily, Catherine and Peter. Those of us who were fit enough then went down to the bottom of the hill and walked on the little sand available because the tide was in fully. Those of us not so fit stayed at the top of the hill and were entertained by a number of groups of Morris Dancers. At 4.00 pm, we all reported back to Madonna House for a Mass, said by Father John Wood, on the Feast of the Birthday of St John the Baptist. We then had a picnic tea on the lawn before our coach picked us up, tired but happy after a very enjoyable day.
First Communion
The next day, eight of our children from St Anthony's made their First Communion and there was a wonderful atmosphere when so many of their families and friends were present.
Parish Meal
In July, there was a parish meal at one of the local hotels, organised by Rita Plaxton, when 46 members enjoyed each other's company as well as good food and drink. Also in July, we had a Summer Fayre after our Sunday Mass, when £431 was raised for parish funds and in addition £99 of Fair trade foodstuffs were sold.
Adult Formation
During June and July, at both St Anthony's and Holy Name, groups of parishioners met to take part in a six week course to look at parts of the following documents: The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, Celebrating the Mass and the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, to understand more fully the meaning of all the various parts of the Mass. All those who took part found the course most enjoyable, particularly sharing our own experiences.
