Classics in the Church
This was the third year that Hedon Parish of Our Lady and St Joseph has held this musical event at which those attending enjoyed a picnic in the garden prior to the concert. Gazeboes, chairs, picnic tables, lanterns, candles and, of course, tables laden with food and wine!! Over the years the weather has been kind to us and this year was no exception - so at 5 pm the party began in the sheltered Parish garden.
The artists this year were The Cottingham Singers, Last Minute Chorus.com and the Three Tenors (with a difference). The concert in front of a packed church began with a repertoire from The Cottingham Singers, the next group were our own 'home grown talent' - Last Minute Chorus.com who excelled themselves and surprised us locals with their talent!!! After the interval (which allowed time for an extra dessert and a glass of wine) - the concert continued with another excellent range of songs from The Cottingham Singers followed by Last Minute Chorus.com and their 'take off' called 'a member of the hierarchy' (clerical) to the Gilbert and Sullivan Chorus - 'I am the model of a modern major-general' - the audience thoroughly appreciated this clever and amusing item and showed their appreciation with thunderous applause. Our final item was - 'The Three Tenors' - no not THE three tenors but the Fathers - Day, Massie and Loughlin - and what an excellent performance they gave - despite all the previous difficulties of getting together to 'fine tune' their act!!!
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks given by Fr Bill Ryan, and small presentations were made to the groups/leader and accompanist by two young people from the Parish. The money raised during the evening was to go to the local Hospice - Dove House. All in all it was an excellent evening and thanks to all who were involved in any way.
