Pupils at St. Gabriel’s R.C. Primary School, Ormesby, enjoyed an Olympic themed sports week at the end of June. The children were treated to a surprise guest, former Nunthorpe headteacher Doug Welsh, who was an official torch bearer during the Olympic torch relay.
The day started with Doug visiting each class in turn, answering the children’s questions and giving them the chance to hold the torch and have their photograph taken.
In the afternoon the pupils had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run with the torch as Doug re-enacted his moment of glory on the school playground.
The children showed their support for the Great Britain team by dressing in red, white and blue and ended this memorable day with an Olympic themed disco!
