The 8th Centenary of the Franciscan Order 1209-2009

Supporting Activities in the Diocese of Middlesbrough

On Saturday 12th September, a Day Retreat is to be given by Rev Bro Michael Copps OFM, Minister Provincial of the Order of Franciscan Minors, at St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Newbiggin, Richmond, to follow the usual 9.30 am Mass and morning coffee in the Church Hall. Details being finalised.

A Prayer Service in the Franciscan Friary Ruins in the Friary Gardens in Richmond is proposed, to commence with the Angelus at midday, which is rung daily from the Catholic Church. Date proposed is Saturday 26th September and the service to last about half an hour.

In preparation for October, publication of a brief history of Franciscan Friaries in Yorkshire – Doncaster, Beverley, York, Scarborough and Richmond, pre-Reformation and post-Reformation, Osmotherley and Bradford.

Available for September and October, booked parties are welcome to take part in an hourís town centre walk round the Franciscan connections with Richmond.
