Bishop lays foundation stone at new church

in Guisborough

On 17th September, the Bishop of Middlesbrough, Terence Patrick Drainey, laid and blessed the foundation stone at the new St Paulinus Church, Guisborough, currently under construction on The Avenue, Guisborough. The church is expected to be ready for use around end year. Seating 260, it will replace the existing building in Park Lane which was opened in 1927.

The Bishop was joined at the ceremony by Canon Michael Bayldon, parish priest of St Paulinus, parishioners and children from the nearby St Paulinus parish school.

For the Diocese, it was a memorable event since St Paulinus is the first church to be built since Bishop Drainey became Bishop in January 2008. The total cost of the building is expected to be £1.5 millions, and the parish is busy raising funds to meet this cost.
