Pope Idol 2008

Entrants from schools and parishes right across the Diocese took part in this year’s Pope Idol competition at Middlesbrough Theatre on 1st March.

The acts ranged from Irish dancers to solo singers and bands with even a comedian thrown in for good measure! Bishop Terry was unable to be at Pope Idol but sent a message of support and encouragement to all of the performers.

The quality of the performances was at an all time high and made the judges’ job very difficult. Last year’s winner, Laura Prescott, was on hand to entertain the audience whilst the decision was made. The winners of Pope Idol were Sam and Jess. The duo performed ‘Your Song’ by Elton John with Sam playing piano and Jess singing. They received a cheque for £200 towards recording costs for a CD.

The evening was a great success and would not be possible if it weren’t for the help and support of the Middlesbrough Theatre staff and our own backstage crew.

Have you got what it takes to be the winner of Pope Idol 2009?!?
