As a Remembrance Day tribute, 24 Year 6 pupils from St Martin’s Ampleforth School were delighted to be able to entertain residents of the Alba Rose Residential Care Home on Tuesday 10th November by singing a medley of songs from the war period, including ‘White cliffs of Dover’ and ‘Two Little Boys’ as well as songs from musicals such as ‘Oliver!’. After singing, the children had the opportunity to talk to the residents about their experiences during or just after the war.

Rodrigue de Decker, aged 10, was particularly interested in the stories that he heard from Mrs Josephine Russell as both of them are from Belgium and they chatted in French about how the teenage Josephine was instrumental in helping residents of her town buy supplies on the black market. ‘Let’s hope he didn’t pick up too many tips to bring back to school!’ said Mr Conyngham, Director of Music.
