Come and Sing at Scarborough

by Joan Salt, Scarborough

On Saturday 5th March, Tim Harrison and Martin Richardson, who is the Organist and Director of St Joseph’s choir, led us in an afternoon of singing church music in St Joseph’s Church, Scarborough. Choristers from Hull, Bridlington, York, Pickering and Scarborough enjoyed a lovely afternoon of learning and hearing some great music.

With no pressure we tried some new pieces. There was music from the baroque period, as well as some ‘soul’ music. Martin also brought along a very nice hymn which was new to us. We heard a lot about different types and periods of classical church music and learned how to use our voices to the best advantage, and so give worthy praise to God. We practiced several pieces and we all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Everyone is welcome at these ‘Come and Sing’ events; come along even just to listen – audience support is always welcome, and who knows you might even join in!

Thank you Tim and Martin.
