Chaplains and Chaplaincies

Hello and welcome to the home page of the section dedicated to the work of our school chaplaincies in the diocese.

What does a school chaplaincy do?

It is the role of a school chaplaincy to develop in staff and students the love of God and a knowledge of the teaching of the Catholic Church; to foster personal faith and the habit of prayer and worship; to encourage self-discipline, tolerance, compassion and forgiveness.

Who does the work of a school chaplaincy?

We have a range of dedicated people across the diocese who contribute to this invaluable work in our schools. We have full time lay chaplaincy co-ordinators, clerical chaplains and throughout the diocese priests, deacons and lay people work together to ensure that our staff and students are supported in their work in our Catholic schools.

What is this section for?

As the section develops its function will grow. At this stage, it is to:

  • raise awareness of the work of our school chaplaincies
  • share news of forthcoming events
  • share reflections on the workings of our school chaplaincies
  • give details of who our school chaplains/chaplaincy workers are and how to contact them
  • have a shared area for those working in chaplaincy to share resources and good practice
