Safeguarding Coordinator – Full Time (35 hours per week)
Salary: In the region of £38,000 with pension contribution
Permanent Contract
Based at the Curial Office, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough TS5 6QT

The Diocese of Middlesbrough is committed to discharging its safeguarding responsibilities to an exemplary standard. To assist with this commitment, an exciting opportunity has arisen to fulfil the position of Safeguarding Coordinator for the diocese.

Leading the diocesan safeguarding team, you will work closely with safeguarding personnel (volunteer, lay and professional) providing professional advice and support to parishes, religious orders, and other statutory and non-statutory organisations.

Working to statutory, canonical and Catholic safeguarding guidance, the successful applicant will be responsible for delivering the overall management and delivery of all diocesan safeguarding functions including working with survivors of abuse, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) systems, managing case work and the management of safeguarding within parishes.

The successful candidate will have and be able to demonstrate to a high standard a broad and detailed understanding of safeguarding for both children, young people, and adults at risk. In addition, the following attributes are required of the post holder:

  1. Substantial relevant experience as a social worker, police officer, probation officer, NHS employee or experience gained in a similar role.
  2. Experience of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk. 
  3. Experience of dealing sensitively and professionally with vulnerable groups.         
  4. Awareness of issues affecting survivors/victims of abuse and how to support them. 
  5. Experience of supporting a volunteer workforce.

Please note that you must provide proof of Right to Work in the UK to be eligible for this position. A full UK driving licence is required as extensive travel may be required in the Diocese of Middlesbrough.
