The Diocese of Middlesbrough J&P Commission is looking for inspirational examples of parishes, schools and members of our Catholic community being “Guardians of Creation”.
The ecological crisis we face, the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, is affecting communities worldwide. We can all do our bit to care for our common home, and parishes, schools and communities up and down the country are taking the task seriously.
Together with the Diocese of Salford we are piloting the Guardians of Creation project, which seeks to understand how to work with a diocese towards a carbon neutral and more sustainable future.
As part of this work the research team wants to understand what examples of the Catholic community responding to the ecological crisis exist across England and Wales.
Has your parish invested in solar panels or started a car share project? Maybe you have a community allotment that supports the local food bank with fresh produce, or supply all the flower needs of your church from your own gardens? Has your school been holding lessons out in nature? Have you received the Live Simply award or become a Fairtrade parish?
If you are aware of projects that you would be happy to share, the Guardians of Creation team and J&P Commission would be very happy to hear from you.

The case studies will help build up a picture of our progress and help us share learning between dioceses. We have much to learn from each other, and no time to waste!
