Pilgrimage draws 400

After hours of rain, the sun came out when the annual outdoor Mass to honour the feast of the Assumption was held at Mount Grace, Osmotherley, on Sunday 12th August. Some 400 people from all over the North-east walked up a rough track to the Chapel where the Rt Rev Cuthbert Madden OSB, Abbot of Ampleforth, presided with 10 priests at the Mass. The attendance compared with 300 last year when rain hit the pilgrimage.

“It was a good community effort involving all of our parish,” said organiser Fr Damian Humphries OSB. The preacher was Fr Norman Jacobson, then parish priest of the Sacred Heart, Northallerton.
