Bridlington Confirmations

Nineteen parishioners have been confirmed in Bridlington this summer, 17 were teenagers and two adults. At Fr David Grant’s request, Fr John Paul Leonard, the Diocesan Youth Officer and former Curate at Our Lady and St Peter’s, stepped in when Bishop Crowley was no longer able to come and celebrate the Sacrament.

The highlight of several months preparation by our catechists, Paul, Joan and Emma, was a weekend retreat at Myddelton Grange, the Youth Centre of the Leeds Diocese. The weather, beautiful scenery and inspiring leadership of Fr Simon Lodge all combined to make this a memorable experience and we were delighted that Sarah Holmes, our own Diocesan Youth Worker who is based in Hull, was able to join us for the retreat weekend.

The Confirmation Mass was a prayerful and joyful celebration and Fr Leonard’s homily had a light touch which also conveyed the challenge to live a new life inspired by the reception of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation. The evening was rounded off by a reception in the parish hall organised by Mrs Martina Booth and her faithful group of helpers.
