Speaking up

Province 5 Catenian Public Speaking Competition

Catenians from Province 5 organised a public speaking competition for young people in the north-east of England, including some from the north of our own diocese.

James Harris from St Michael’s gave advice to parents on ‘how to be cool!’ which was delivered with humour and panache.

The section winner was Greg Montgomery from St Robert’s, Washington, was an ‘absolute knock out’ in informing an enthralled audience as to why his life will be on hold for a month this July! The construction of the speech, along with the humour built into it, plus a superb delivery, was absolutely astounding for such a young man!

In the intermediate section Joseph Lee of St Michael’s, Billingham, gave superb advice to parents as to ‘how to remain cool’ but Sanya Kurmani, EMS, Hartlepool, convinced the audience that there are ‘too many Chiefs and not enough Indians’.

In the senior section there were two superb manifestoes for the ‘General Election’, Kyle Myers was pipped at the post by Heather Robinson from St Joseph’s, Hebburn.
