The Easter Vigil is the high point of the Church’s liturgical year, when we celebrate the most fundamental truth of our Catholic faith: “Christ is risen from the dead!” All over the world, we celebrate the new life Christ brings by initiating new members into the Church during the Easter Vigil. At St Augustine’s Redcar, we fully initiated two young people through baptism, confirmation and the eucharist.
Here we see two young people by the font for the blessing of the Easter water just before their baptism. We also confirmed 4 adults in the Catholic faith at the Vigil – Elaine, Lynn, Bob and Geraldo, seen here with their sponsors.
The faith journey of our new members, in parishes up and down our diocese, has led them into communion with the Catholic Church, and they remind us all of our privilege of being members of Christ’s body, a pilgrim people, called to bear witness in our lives to this simple life-changing truth: “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed.”
