Bishop Terry visits Young Offenders for Easter Day

Bishop Terry visited Her Majesty’s Young Offenders Institution Deerbolt, Barnard Castle, on Easter Sunday morning to join Prison Chaplain, Fr Patrick Cope, in celebrating the Easter Day Mass.

During Mass the Bishop also received into the Church Darren, 19 years old – baptizing and confirming him. At the end of the Mass, Bishop Terry very movingly gave Darren the set of Rosary beads that the Bishop had received from the Pope during his recent Ad Limina visit to Rome.

The Bishop spent time after the Mass with the young people and staff, mingling easily with them all and been very much at ease! The young prisoners very much appreciated his visit, which are becoming quite regular now and were fully engaged during the Mass and the Bishop’s homily, during which he spoke about ‘identity’ and identifying ourselves with the Risen Lord.
