A New Classroom for Sables but no furniture!

We were all delighted to read in the November Voice about the success of so many of our Catholic schools within the diocese and also the great work of the Youth Mission. Just think how difficult it is for many children in the Third World. At Christmas it is also worth reflecting on the gift of education and creating opportunities for children to flourish.

Sables is a Drop-In Centre for the homeless and destitute children in Kabwe, Zambia which I visited last autumn. Up to 100 children, orphans of the HIV/Aids epidemic, come each day for a meal, clothing and basic education skills. The success of the centre creates its own problems.

With only one small classroom there is urgent need for another to be built. The Zamda charity, supported by St. Joseph’s School and a Dublin Rotary club, took on the project and three different groups of volunteers went to Sables this summer to build the second classroom. Mission accomplished but as yet there is no furniture or teaching materials for the lovely new building! Could you help? Any donation which will enable the children to improve their education and standing in life would be much appreciated. They are so happy with so little.
