Irish dancing successes in anniversary year

Significant successes came to a group of very young dancers from the Kevin O’Conner’s Scarborough-based School of Irish Dancing; all are pupils at St Peter’s Catholic school.

The girls gained first place in the National section of the British Arts awards that took place in London on 7th May 2011. Two of the girls also achieved second place in the duet section, one gained first place in the solo section as well.

All are credits to the dance school and also to St Peter’s School. The girls were guided and trained by Alice Greenwood-Wilson and Kevin O’Conner.

This year the dance school is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The school was started in 1986 and had a grand total of eight dancers compared to the present number of 63. Many of the pupils at the dance school are from St Peter’s and St Augustine’s schools in Scarborough.

The photograph shows Alice with the four dancers who achieved remarkable results in a highly competitive event.
