You are warmly invited to join the annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Lady Chapel at Osmotherley on Sunday August 17 2025, in honour of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady.
This beautiful and longstanding pilgrimage has drawn Catholics from across our diocese and beyond for many years. It takes place in the breathtaking setting of Mount Grace, near Osmotherley, where the Lady Chapel has stood for centuries as a hidden jewel of Marian devotion in the North of England.
The Rosary will be prayed at 2.30pm, followed by Holy Mass at 3pm, celebrated at the outdoor altar. Pilgrims are encouraged to bring folding chairs or rugs for seating, and a picnic if they wish to enjoy the grounds beforehand.
The Lady Chapel is a place steeped in prayer and history. Originally associated with the nearby Carthusian priory of Mount Grace, the chapel’s origins stretch back to the 15th century. Destroyed during the Reformation, it was restored and reopened in the 20th century, and has since become a beloved site of pilgrimage and quiet reflection. Its secluded location, set on a wooded hillside with views across the Vale of York, invites all who come to pause, pray, and draw closer to the Mother of God.
In gathering together at this holy place, we honour Our Lady assumed into heaven, and renew our own hope in the glory that awaits all who follow Christ.
All are welcome – families, parish groups, individuals. Come and walk in the footsteps of generations of pilgrims. Come and be refreshed in faith.
Directions & Parking: The Lady Chapel is a short uphill walk from the car park at the end of the lane (postcode: DL6 3BB). Stewards will be on hand to assist.
