York’s Bar Convent says it’s “overwhelmed” after more than 1,000 angels were created to adorn the windows of its stunning Grade II-listed building this Christmas.
People of all ages and from across the UK, including nine schools, and angels even came from as far as Canada, Singapore and Australia.
Superior Sister Ann Stafford said: “From all at the Bar Convent, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for your involvement in our recent appeal for angels to decorate the windows of our building on Blossom Street. We were overwhelmed by the incredible response.
“The effort that went into the messages, dedications, decorations and the sheer amount that we had is an amazing example of all the kindness, love and goodness with the community spirit here in York, in our schools, and far beyond.
“What overwhelmed us most was the sense of hope, which is a powerful message is this present world affected by Covid-19, climate change and all the difficulties that people are experiencing in their lives.
“These angels are now sending out to the rest of the world the true message of Christmas. Thank you and we hope that you enjoy seeing the choir of angels we all created together.”
The angels symbolise faith, love, comfort, strength, protection and guardianship and each represents a personal prayer, message or dedication.
