Choirs celebrate 40 years of the Schola Cantorum

The combined choirs of Ampleforth Abbey joined former members of the choirs and some splendid soloists, two of whom were Old Amplefordians, James Arthur (D98) and Nick Scott (D05), for a moving performance of Mozart’s Requiem in the Abbey Church on Sunday 2nd May. The Concert was held to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Schola Cantorum. Abbot Patrick Barry and David Bowman, who were respectively Abbot and Director of Music at the inauguration of the choir, were present together with the current Abbot, Fr Cuthbert Madden, and the Headmaster, Fr Gabriel Everitt.

The programme of music performed by the Schola Cantorum, Schola Puellarum and Schola Martini also included works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Parry.

A highly appreciative audience filled the Abbey Church and were treated to some wonderful singing.
