Father Andrew Henson, who died on September 12, was a Cistercian monk at Mount St Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire for 76 years.
Baptised Paul (Andrew was his religious name) he came from a well-known Hull family.
His sister Kathleen emigrated to Canada and his sister Margaret taught for many years at Endsleigh College and worked tirelessly for the Hull branch of the Catholic Children’s Fellowship.
Father Andrew initially went to Ushaw to train for the diocesan priesthood but while there he discerned that the Lord was calling him to the monastic life.
A musician and composer, he played the organ at divine services and was also the monastery tailor.
He was predeceased this year by both Kathleen and Margaret – all of them reached their 90s and Father Andrew was 96.
May they rest in peace.
