On 23rd May, Pentecost Sunday, more than twelve hundred Christians from a wide variety of York churches gathered to take part in the Global Day of Prayer.
At 5.45 pm, the Minster bells stopped ringing and trumpets announced prayer on the city walls. People then proceeded to York Minster for a lively, yet profoundly reflective, service of praise and intercession. This ended with what has become a tradition: civic and church leaders carried lighted torches out into the city as a sign of the Church’s mission to the world.
