Join CAFOD’s Big Walk For Water Campaign

There’s still time to sign up for CAFOD’s 10,000 steps a day or its Big Walk for Water at 2pm on Saturday February 20.

Bishop Terry tells us why we should do all we can to help…

As Lent begins, I want to encourage you to think of joining in CAFOD’s Big Walk for Water Campaign.

Already some people from our area have committed themselves to be sponsored to walk 10,000 steps in order to help provide good clean water for those millions of people who are deprived of it.

We take water for granted; in fact, we waste so much of it that it is really a crime. By joining in this campaign, you will help so many people to obtain this fundamental necessity of life.

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, reminds us in his Lenten Message:

Love is a gift that gives meaning to our lives. It enables us to view those in need as members of our own family, as friends, brothers or sisters. A small amount, if given with love, never ends, but becomes a source of life and happiness. Such was the case with the jar of meal and jug of oil of the widow of Zarephath, who offered a cake of bread to the prophet Elijah (cf. 1 Kings 17:7-16); it was also the case with the loaves blessed, broken and given by Jesus to the disciples to distribute to the crowd (cf. Mk 6:30-44).  Such is the case too with our efforts, whether small or large, when offered with joy and simplicity.

Please consider joining this very worthy campaign.

Yours in blessed hope,

Bishop Terry
