As part of the Christmas story, York’s Bar Convent will be celebrating angels and all that they symbolise – from faith, love and comfort to strength, protection and guardianship.
During lockdown the convent is creating a Christmas display of angels for the windows of the beautiful Grade I listed building – and they would like to invite you to be a part of it.
Each angel will represent a personal prayer, a message or a dedication and they will all come together to create an uplifting and meaningful Choir of Angels.
“The display may come to mean different things to different people, as Angels often do,” said Sister Ann from the Bar Convent.
“Perhaps it will be something to admire as you pass by our building on Blossom Street. The angels might symbolise hope, a sense of community, a connection between those behind closed doors and the outside world.
“Perhaps someone has dedicated an angel just for you, so that you know someone is thinking of you even if you are unable to be together.
“Help us to create this by printing out the angel template on A4 card. Please cut around the angel, add your own personal message and if you would like to decorate your angel, we would like to request that you use the colours white, silver and gold.
The template is also available to download here.
Please send your Angel to Lauren Masterman, The Bar Convent Living Heritage Centre, 17 Blossom Street, York, YO24 1AQ by Thursday 26 November. Your Angels will be on display from Thursday 3 December.
