June 2011

At this time, I ask you to pray especially to pray for vocations. However, I would like you to remember that we have four seminarians training at the moment. Two are completing their propaedeutic year at the English college in Valladolid, Spain. Two will be transferring from Ushaw to Oscott in September. We also have one candidate for permanent diaconate and one candidate about to be ordained this June. Please keep them in your prayers . Also please be aware of the cost of training for priesthood and permanent diaconate. The average cost for priesthood is around £22K a year.
To encourage you a little, the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy from Nigeria are sending us two priest to work in the diocese with the possibility of a third and also the Syro-Malabar Archiepiscopal See are also sending us a priest who will have special care for the people of that Rite.
As we move from Ascension to Pentecost, may this season be fruitful for you and may you be filled afresh with the gifts of the Spirit.

Terence Patrick, Bishop of Middlesbrough
