Papal Nuncio to visit the diocese

The Papal Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, will visit the Diocese of Middlesbrough for three days in November as Bishop Terry’s guest.

Archbishop Gugerotti will begin his visit on Friday November 11 at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Middlesbrough, where he will bless a new classroom.

He will then attend a remembrance service at Postgate House, Middlesbrough, the headquarters of the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust, which runs Catholic schools throughout Teesside and North Yorkshire.

Afterwards, he will meet school chaplains from across the diocese, together with Bishop Terry and Father Phil Cunnah.

There will then be an informal lunch attended by some of our clergy at Bishop’s House.

On Saturday November 12, Archbishop Gugerotti will meet volunteers at the Feast of Fun partnership at St Mary’s Cathedral in Middlesbrough.

The group provides holiday activities with healthy food for children and their families facing challenges during school holidays.

Bishop Terry and Archbishop Gugerotti then travel to Hull to celebrate the evening Mass at Our Lady and St Peter’s Church and meet students from Hull University Catholic Chaplaincy.

On the final day of the visit, Sunday November 13, Archbishop Gugerotti will celebrate 10am Mass at the cathedral, where he will also present the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (For Church and Pope) medal to Kevin Duffy, for his service to education in the diocese.

Kevin retired recently from his role as the diocesan director of schools.

After lunch, Bishop Terry and Archbishop Gugerotti will set off for a meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
