History

Stokesley had a long history of recusancy and a Mass-house was destroyed in 1746 before the modern parish was established in 1860. A chapel in a converted granary served until a church could be built in 1872-3 (architect George Goldie). A hundred years later a fire destroyed the interior and the opportunity was taken for an extension and major reordering.
