Diocesan Choirs Festival

Do you sing? Yes? Then don’t miss the chance to be part of this year’s Diocesan Choirs Festival, which will be held on Saturday 2nd July at St Joseph’s Church, Pickering.

The Festival, which is open to singers and choir members from throughout the Diocese, will be led by one of the country’s foremost liturgical musicians, Martin Foster. Martin is acting Secretary to the Liturgy Department of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, and is a well known choral conductor and composer; you may well have sung some of his music in your parish, much of which appears in the books ‘Laudate‘ and ‘Resurrexit‘. A concert not to be missed!

On Tuesday 28th June at 7.30 pm, guitarist Jonathan Richards takes to the platform in a concert of music which ranges from the baroque to the present day, including a rarely played work by JS Bach’s great contemporary and lutenist, Silvius Weiss. This is definitely a concert not to be missed!

An ever-popular figure in the world of classical guitar, Jonathan is a prolific composer and recording artist whose recitals are an entertaining mix of great music and wit. Richard Ormrod in concert

The brand new concert series at St Mary’s Cathedral, Middlesbrough, kicks off to a great start on Tuesday 7th June at 7.30 pm with a concert featuring leading British pianist, Richard Ormrod.

Richard has toured with many world-famous orchestras including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Bournemouth Sinfonietta. Richard will perform a virtuoso programme of music by Bach, Bartok and Schumann.

Benediction with Solemn Vespers will be celebrated at the Cathedral on Wednesday 1st June at 6.30 pm, when the singing will be led by the Middlesbrough Ladies Schola Cantorum. The motet will be ‘Christo Resugenti’ by Couperin.
