100th Birthday Celebration in Egton Bridge

St Hedda’s parishioner Louie Harland celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday 31st August.

Born into the White farming family, she has spent almost the whole of her life in the Egton area. One of her earliest memories is of a former Parish Priest of Egton Bridge, Canon Francis Callebert, who was responsible for the building of the present church, opened in 1867. With help from carers, Louie is still able to attend Mass most Sundays and came to the 10.30 am Mass on the morning of her birthday after which one of the youngest members of the congregation, Louise Summerson, presented her with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the parish. For the rest of the day, she held open house, was visited by many well-wishers and opened her telegram from the Queen.
