Apostleship of the Sea Trustee, David Savage, has raised an amazing £11,455.33 for the Apostleship of the Sea in his adventurous bike ride from the Irish Sea to the North Sea in a day! He exceeded his original goal to raise a whopping £10,000 and is still going.

On 15th November 2008, David Savage rode from Liverpool to Hull, non-stop, on an immense charity bike ride to raise funds for Apostleship of the Sea, so the charity can continue their vital work in support of seafarers. In total he rode 215.9 kilometres in a total time of 9 hours and 42 minutes. He tells us his average speed was 22.26 kph (13.91 mph) but that at one point he even got up to 69.88 kph, but that was down a hill!

David was helped along the way by the kindness of others, those who directed him when he was lost (in Hull with just 5 kilometres to go!), those who gave him food and drink and those who cheered him on.

He was met at the end of his journey in Hull with a jubilant reception from Fr Colum Kelly, Apostleship of the Sea port chaplain for Immingham, and Anne McLaren, Apostleship of the Sea port chaplain for Hull, Apostleship of the Sea Ship Visitors and volunteers, and most of all, a group of seafarers who were at the Hull Centre that night. David reported ‘To see the seafarers at the end of the journey, well, the effort was worth it for that alone.’
