Nearly 60 parishioners recently enjoyed a full English breakfast at St Leonard and St Mary’s RC Church parish community centre, Malton, following Sunday Mass.

The meal was organised and cooked by Bob Richardson of York who is a member of HCPT which helps handicapped young people.

The idea was part of a fundraising effort by Bob to take a young person to Lourdes and collections for his aim were also taken in the church after the service.

There was also a Friday evening Mass at Leavening Chapel which is shared by the Anglicans and Methodists but Catholics live in the village and surrounding area and the idea was to invite them and other parishioners of St Leonard and St Mary’s to join in a united service.

Parishioners of St Leonard and St Mary’s RC Church, Malton, were among 130,000 people who contributed 3,427.94 metres for a display in Battersea Park, London, on World Fairtrade Day to show solidarity in calling for justice for West African cotton farmers and it is also hoped the amount of bunting will qualify for the Guinness Book of Records.

A pilgrimage to mark the 50th anniversary of the agency will begin on Sunday June 26 with Mass celebrated at Mount Grace, Osmotherley and ends with an open air Mass at Whitby Abbey on July 2 at 2.30pm.

A hog roast and auction in of Farm crisis Network will take place on Sunday July 3 from 12.30pm onwards at Oxclose farm, High Lane, Pockley, near York when tickets will be £10 a head or £5 for under 12s. The event is being sponsored by BATA.
