New Catholic book store to mark the Year of St Paul

Bishop Drainey will perform the opening ceremony and bless a new bookshop on King’s Square in York on Thursday 11th September at 12.30 pm.

The shop, run by St Pauls, an activity of the Society of St Paul, will be in the heart of York between the Minster and the Shrine of St Margaret Clitherow. The Society of St Paul, founded in the last century by Blessed James Alberione, is a community of Catholic priests and brothers whose work is to promote the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church by means of social communication. They have publishing houses and Christian retail outlets throughout the world, and the shop in York will be their fifth in the UK.

St Pauls’ shop in Westminster has been serving the Catholic community there for over 15 years. They also have shops in Birmingham and Leeds, all of which stock a full range of Christian books, greeting cards, gifts, audio visual materials, vestments, church supplies and much more. The York shop will be unique for St Pauls as, not only will it stock the full range of products, but it will also contain a second-hand book department, which is in itself a new venture for them.

St Pauls is currently recruiting staff for the York shop and at the time of going to press has vacancies for two full-time and two part-time members of staff. Anyone interested in applying to work at St Pauls should contact Stephen Moseling, the Operations Co-ordinator, at their London shop on 020 7828 5582 or e-mail stephen@stpauls.org.uk

Stephen said: ‘This is a very exciting time for us at St Pauls. As we begin the celebrations for the Year of St Paul, we are delighted to be opening our shop in York as part of those celebrations and we look forward to serving the people of the city of York and the wider community of the Diocese of Middlesbrough.’
