A model parish

I thought you might care to see my transformation of the Hornby country church into a fictional Our Lady and St Hilda, Teesdale for my railway layout. After all, is there any reason why every model church has to be an Anglican one!

The exterior shows ‘Sister’ approaching up the path while the cleaner rests in the doorway and ‘Father’ converses with a young member of the parish at the foot of the tower. The building has been weathered with watercolour paint to give it a more realistic appearance.

I built the interior with blu-tack and balsa wood. To the right is the confessional, statue of St Hilda complete with crosier made from fuse wire and the font. Lord Jesus and Mother Mary are respectively to the left and right of the altar. I created the three statues from Hornby figures. The entire assembly fits inside the main body of the church in which I have also painted the stages of the cross (not shown).

I hope this project may be of interest to your readers.
