Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough, Deputy Director of Schools

In the region of £60,000, dependent on experience

Required September 2023 or sooner if possible

The Bishop of Middlesbrough is seeking to appoint a practising Catholic as deputy diocesan director of schools to work in his diocesan schools service department.

The successful applicant will be an experienced leader with extensive knowledge and understanding of Catholic education, ideally within a primary school setting, and a proven track record of success.

Reporting to the diocesan director of schools, the deputy director will play a key role in shaping Catholic education within the diocesan academy trust structures and ensuring the ongoing development, improvement and sustainability of high-quality Catholic education in the diocese.

The deputy director will be responsible for developing the Bishop’s religious education programme by providing high-quality training and support to all our diocesan schools. A key element of this will be leading diocesan schools in the implementation of the new RE directory.

In addition, in partnership with the director of chaplaincy, the deputy director will support the diocesan trusts in developing and sustaining high-quality collective worship and Catholic life in our schools.

A key responsibility of the deputy director of schools is to work with the Catholic academy trusts to ensure future Catholic leadership development programmes are fit for purpose and to provide direct diocesan input and guidance to potential future Catholic leaders to support their formation.

The deputy director of schools will also take a leading role in the implementation of the new Catholic Schools Inspectorate, providing training for inspectors and schools and helping with the coordination of inspections.

To be successful, the deputy director will need to develop and maintain close working relationships with parishes, Catholic academy trust boards, chief executive officers, headteachers, governors and schools, to ensure the realisation of the Bishop’s vision for education in the Diocese of Middlesbrough.

For further information and an ‘in confidence’ conversation about the role please contact Kate Bailey, director of schools, on 07919916108.

Please note: This post is offered under diocesan terms and conditions but for eligible applicants continued entry into the Teachers Pensions Scheme can be sought if desired.

A full job description, person specification and application form can be downloaded from the diocesan schools’ website.

Please return all applications to educationadmin@rcdmidd.org.uk.
