Celebrating 50 Years

On Saturday 24th April, St Aelred’s, York, celebrated the 50th Anniversary of St Aelred’s UCM Foundation, which was founded on 5th April 1960.

Mass was concelebrated by Canon Jerry Twomey and Fr Sean O’Donnell from Filey, who is our Diocesan Spiritual Advisor. During the Mass, Canon Jerry enrolled Hannah Pugh and Maureen Thomas as two new members of the Foundation and all the other members renewed their promises to the UCM. St Aelred’s has had six new members in the past year. At the present time, four of the Diocesan officers are in the St Aelred’s Foundation. Guests had been invited from the other Foundations in York who joined us for a celebratory dinner at the Blakeney Hotel. The Diocesan President, having read the minute books of the past 50 years, felt that it had been a ‘This Is Our Life’ as so many memories were recalled and realising how much St Aelred’s UCM has supported the parish in various projects, events and most of all in the friendships and support of each other. A toast was given by Hilda Carney, the Parish President, to friendship and the event was concluded by Canon Jerry giving a vote of thanks to the Union of Catholic Mothers for all the support which they give and have given to the parish of St Aelred’s.
