‘Come and Sing’ a great success

Saturday 30th October 2010 offered a wonderful opportunity for both beginner and experienced musicians in the Diocese to experience singing as part of a first-class choir. ‘Come and Sing’ gave our musicians the chance to join with the choir of St Chad’s College, Durham, for an afternoon of fine music-making at the Cathedral in Middlesbrough. Tim Harrison, the Diocesan Director of Music, led more than 80 musicians in a workshop of sacred and secular music. The repertoire included songs from musical styles as varied as Gregorian chant, Elgar and Saint-Saëns, Vaughan Williams and contemporary pieces.

Diocesan soprano singer, Valerie Brown, said ‘I really enjoyed Saturday. It was so wonderful to sit among such lovely voices and I managed rather well being supported by such nice girls.’

The afternoon ended with a magnificent celebration of Mass for All Saints, at which Bishop Terence presided, and the singing was led by the combined choirs.
