Enjoying signing, loving the Mass

Children from St Charles’ School learnt to sign the Hail Mary and “Come Lord Jesus Come” to fully participate in the recent Deaf Awareness Mass at St Charles Borromeo Church in Hull.

The children, from English, Filipino and Polish backgrounds, were taught by Pam Quick, a former lecturer at Hull College.

Fr Robert Kinlen the Chaplain for the Deaf in Hexham and Newcastle Diocese said Mass. The readings were signed by David Marshall (the Pastoral Worker for the Catholic Deaf Association North-East) and Terry Harton. Sue from Richmond interpreted.

Later David presented each of the participating children with a certificate at the school assembly. The children told David how much they had enjoyed their signing and what they liked about the Mass.
