Follow In the footsteps of education pioneer Mary Ward

The Bar Convent in York is inviting families to discover the story of the trailblazer Yorkshire woman, Mary Ward during the half-term break.
It was Mary Ward’s mission to educate girls, and it is thanks to her that her followers established the first school for girls in the country in 1669 and the second, at the Bar Convent, in 1686.
Find out how she paved the way for equality in education, against all the odds.
Alongside this, the earliest surviving biographies of Mary Ward – handwritten in French (1650) and English (1716) – are on public display for the first time.
Children also receive a sticker and story booklet to take home.
Admission is £6 for adults, £4 for concessions, £2 for children and a family ticket is available for £12.
