It must be quite unusual for two parishioners to receive papal honours on the same day but two from Holy Cross parish, Cottingham, recently did so.
Kathleen Burgan was presented with the Bene Merenti for services to the church, including playing the church organ over many years. Elizabeth Rodgers was presented with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross of Honour) for her services to the church and to the Catholic Women’s League, locally and nationally.
The presentation was made at Holy Cross Church by the parish priest, Fr Pat Day, on Saturday 12th December 2009.
