A Discussion Day is being organised by the Lay Dominican movement at St Bede’s Pastoral Centre, Blossom Street, York on Saturday 6th June from 10.30 am to 4pm. This is open to anyone interested in the Order of Preachers.
The programme will include Mass at 12.30 pm, an illustrated talk by Fr Richard Conrad OP (Blackfriars, Oxford) on ‘Preaching through Art – the work of Fra Angelico OP’, and a session on ‘Being a Dominican’. Fr Richard will speak from the perspective of a friar and Patrick Doyle (Lay Provincial President) will speak on the role of Lay Dominicans in the Order, and how they can ‘preach’ in today’s world.
There are no Fraternities in Yorkshire – the nearest are Leicester, Manchester and Newcastle. A number of Dominican events have been held in Hull and more are planned. If there is sufficient interest, a Dominican Group or Association in Yorkshire could emerge.
