I want to make you aware of some updates for Lourdes 2026:
Lourdes – DBS applications and renewals
Earlier this year at the Bishops’ Conference, the Bishops of England and Wales agreed to introduce a new training module for all new and renewed DBS applications. Dioceses were allowed to introduce this at a point in the year that was manageable for them. The Diocese of Middlesbrough will introduce this from the end of January 2026. If the use of new technology is an issue for you and you need to renew your Lourdes DBS in readiness for 2026, I would recommend applying sooner rather than later. That way you would not have to complete the online module.
Lourdes – Travel Insurance
Insurance regulators have now stipulated that all those who are travelling on pilgrimage with the diocese’s designated tour operator must have travel insurance in place. I know a lot of you will take the insurance on offer with Joe Walsh Tours (JWT) when you make your booking. However, if you choose another provider, this must be in place before you make the booking. You will be asked for your insurance reference number when you book and JWT will make note of this. This means that travel providers can activate your cover more easily if needed.
