35 year old Simon Broughton from Redcar will be ordained a priest by the Archbishop of Liverpool, Patrick Kelly, in St Mary’s Cathedral, Middlesbrough at noon on Saturday 23 June 2007.

Simon was employed in Printing and Graphic design before he commenced his six years of study for priesthood at Ushaw College, Durham. He was educated at Sacred Heart School, Redcar and then moved to Redcar Technical College for his printing and graphic design studies. His family live in Redcar.

In September he will take up his first appointment as assistant priest at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Simon said he owed much to his family who had given him great support in his priestly studies, and to the staff at Ushaw College for all their help and support. During his summer vacations, Simon has carried out pastoral work in various parishes in the Diocese. His most recent assignment has been at St Aelred’s York
