Robert Nestor writes,
You may recall an article I wrote in November’s Voice in which I brought the reader’s attention to a very worthwhile charity called The Newman Holiday Trust. To remind those of you who read it and to let those of you who didn’t know, we provide underprivileged children with special needs holidays during the summer completely voluntarily and for free.
We recently had a meeting of our executive committee where we were given the very saddening news that we currently do not have the money to fund all of this year’s six holidays. This means that some children may miss out on a holiday and their families and carers miss out on much needed respite.
Each holiday, despite using only voluntary staff (including registered nurses), costs upwards of £8,000. We are currently £10,000 short of the total funds required. This means that, potentially, two holidays may need to be cancelled with nearly 50 children, their families and their carers missing out.
To try to raise some of these much needed funds, I am organising a charity dinner at the Riverside, Middlesbrough on 3rd July. There will be a three course meal, table magic and a live band, as well as a charity auction.
Tickets for this event are a very reasonable £45 each or £400 for a full table of ten and all profits go directly towards funding a child’s holiday. It should be a fantastic evening and a chance for anyone attending to make a real difference to a child’s life.
Please support this event and make it the success that it deserves to be.
