News from the Mission Team

Trinity Mission

In March, the MYMission Team were busy planning and leading a full school Mission Week on both sites at Trinity Catholic College in Middlesbrough, exploring the idea of ‘Sacrifice’.

Each year group spent a day with the team, RE and drama staff. The days were a mix of presentations, reflections, drama and art activities, discussions based on the theme of sacrifice and how we can serve others as Jesus asked us to. We thought about how, as Catholics we receive strength to serve others from the Eucharist and the Blessed Sacrament was exposed all through the school day. Each day finished with a celebration of Mass.

There was also an evening of celebration and prayer during the week for staff, pupils and local parishioners. The week was a fantastic experience for all of us involved, and the team would like to thank Rev Bunce and all of the staff at Trinity who worked so hard during the Mission as well as parishioners from the local churches who stayed with the exposed Blessed Sacrament. Thank you!

‘Shining Stars’

We have also led two primary schools (St Richards, Hull and St Edward’s, Middlesbrough) through Mission Weeks. In each school we spent three days exploring the theme “Shine like Stars”, inspired from St. Paul’s letter to the Phillipians. We worked with KS2, looking at who loves us and how do we know, leading on to who we love and how do we show it. We used a variety of drama, prayer, video clips, songs, dancing, crafts and team building to explore the theme of how we can and do ‘shine like bright stars’. On the last day of each mission KS2 ‘became the Mission Team’ and passed on the message to the younger ones. We had a great time at both schools, and really appreciate the support of staff and pupils, who made us feel so very welcome. Thank you!

Coming Up

We are taking a short break over Easter and all of the team will be going home for a good rest! And we will need it – we have plenty to do when we get back! Over the next month or so we will be leading reflection days for Y6 pupils from various primary schools, a three day mission at St Mary’s Primary, Bridlington and are looking forward to the upcoming Lourdes pilgrimage with training days for all of our younger pilgrims. Please continue to pray for us and the young people of our Diocese. And if you want to see more of what we do, visit our website at mymission.org.uk

Finally…

One of our team members, Deborah McIntosh, did us proud last month by winning an award from ‘Vinvolved’ for voluntary service to the community. As well as volunteering her time for the MYMission Team, Deborah also volunteers at the Trinity Centre in Middlesbrough, where she is involved with youth work and exploring Bible stories through Godly Play. We are all very proud of her, well done Debs!
