Polish welcome pack in Ryedale

On Thursday 12th July at a joint Polish/English breakfast at St Leonard and St Mary’s Parish Community Centre in Malton, a Welcome Pack was launched to assist Polish Migrant Workers arriving in the district. The Catholic Parish and the District Council have worked together on the project under the title ‘Ryedale Together’.

The aim has been to provide a support-worker to assist migrant workers in the district and to produce the Welcome Pack, initially in Polish, to provide vital information in their own language for migrant workers as they arrive.

The Migrant Support Worker, Ewelina Rooke, speaks Polish and has befriended many migrants and their families as well as producing the Welcome Pack. Ewelina has also arranged for Mass to be celebrated in Malton by the Polish Chaplain, Fr Grzegorz Kozienski, on two occasions each month.

The project has been sponsored by North Yorkshire County Council; Ryedale District Council, and The Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber, and is managed by Ryedale Voluntary Action.
