September 2007 is host to the first ever SVP awareness month.
For over 160 years the St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) has been committed to tackling poverty through social action. SVP conferences across the country will be highlighting the scope of the Societies work during September this year.
Befriending those in need is the core work of the SVP. Each year around 11,000 members make half a million visits to those facing disadvantage. By sitting side by side with those in need the society offers friendship, support and companionship for people otherwise isolated from their community.
